One benefit thats come from being inside, has been the ability to take advantage of the extra time I have to spend on myself. Its been nice to actually have breaks in between work responsibilities to read, journal & tune in to podcasts that I didn’t before, in fear of being interrupted.
Being consumed in work, depending on the projects I’m working on, usually means my personal development is somewhat limited to a small time frame after work or on the weekends. When I finally get home, workout & have dinner, I’m sitting down to work on my blog & soon after that I’m preparing for the next day. However, lately, I’ve been able to get back into reading & listening to podcasts which have helped tremendously with my well-being & mindset, motivation, & also personal development especially during this unusual time.
If you haven’t explored the world of Podcasting, now is the perfect time to venture out & find one that you can connect with. I have a portfolio of podcasts that range in genre but the ones that get the most play are specific to helping me thrive in my career as well as personal entrepreneurial ventures. I usually listen on the Podcast App on my Iphone but I’ve also listened on Spotify as well.
Being Boss
Being Boss was created by Kathleen Shannon & Emily Thompson with the woman entrepreneur in mind. They encourage their audience to use what they have to build their dreams. The podcasts are based on things like forming a better boss mindset, improving time management skills, they share financial advice, personal style & branding as well as self care & health care. The podcasts in my opinion are relevant & more importantly relatable. These are Minisodes around 10 minutes are so & there are also longer episodes that extend up to an hour or more.
Optimal Living Daily
The episodes for Optimal Living Daily are fairly short, most are no longer than 15 minutes which is great if you don’t have a lot of time to spare. The narrator shares stories, usually blog posts or book excerpts that relate to listeners’ challenges or even his own challenges regarding self help, personal growth, productivity & happiness. I like listening to these when I’m feeling a little unmotivated. I can just put on one of these brief episodes & expect to be inspired about life in general & reminded about the things we should be grateful for, rather than be consumed by the worldly things we often focus on.
On One with Angela Rye
On One is the podcast I turn to for controversial topics on politics, race and pop culture. I like to listen when I’m needing to get caught up on whats happening in the world. I love how raw & on key the conversations can be, relating so much to some of the social experiences I’ve had. It can be unusually therapeutic & much needed on my best days & worst days. As a woman of color, I appreciate the perspectives discussed, listening to different opinions, personal efforts towards progression & how unapologetically honest & outspoken not only Angela Rye can be but also her guests. Its all so refreshing.
Switch Pivot or Quit
This podcast is hosted by Ahyiana Angel. I tune in when I’m needing motivation or when I’m looking for career advice. I get a lot of inspiration on how to achieve my personal goals & also how to tackle some of the professional battles I tend to encounter. She gives you the tools, bringing on successful pivotors who provide valuable & encouraging tactics that can be applied by anyone. If you’ve been struggling with working through the many phases of life; switching jobs, changing careers or quitting to start your own brand or business, then this podcast is worth the listen.
Work Thrive
This podcast is a fairly young podcast that I’ve recently become interested in tuning into. Its produced by a younger boss woman who is all about finding her momentum in the professional world & also as an entrepreneur. If you’re looking for a fresh vibe & perspective on topics that inspire in a way to reignite creativity, I recommend listening to this. Especially if you’re newly graduated or testing the waters of entrepreneurship, Work Thrive is a great resource for getting questions answered you may not have had the courage to ask.
These are all very different yet very informative & enlightening podcasts I enjoy regularly. Listen in and let me know what you think!
