I rarely buy into the hype of beauty products. I am typically the person who does a ton of research on the ingredients, reading through pages of reviews before I make a permanent decision. When I look for new skincare products to add to my skincare regimen, I look for affordability (unless its superb & magical) and ingredients that I’ve seen trusted dermatologists back by professional research. When I do come across a product I’ve used and gotten great results from it I commit.
The major issues I experience are overall dryness and noticeable under-eye fatigue or puffiness. So, I usually focus on what will produce the results I need in these areas. About a year ago, I came across The Ordinary’s skincare line while shopping in Ulta. I was actually shopping for hair products but got distracted by the floor displays on my way to that department as probably anyone would. I started browsing the section, admiring the bottles on display and researching the ingredients in some of the products. One stuck out the most and with a little in store research I decided to give it a try.
100% Plant – Derived Squalane
What drew me to The Ordinary’s 100% Plant Derived Squalane at first was the “100%” claim + price combination. I was taken back that there could be a product offered with 100% of a plant ingredient and be under $10. Like, where does that happen? Reviews confirmed and after looking deeper at the company itself I had no choice but to accept the claim which I’m glad I did because I have been satisfied ever since. This product is lightweight & supports hydration. The purpose of the Squalane itself is to mimic the natural oils of the skin, and is proven to repair your skin’s ability to reproduce its own hydrants in the process.
The Ordinary’s Squalane Serum is truly 100%:
- No Water
- No Alcohol
- No Oil
- No Nuts (allergy friendly)
- No Gluten
- No Silicone
It is recommended that for best results if used after applying water based moisturizer. I also like to add a small portion to my foundation brush right before I apply my MAC Studio Face and Body. I find it gives a little luminance and keeps the foundation from drying out.
The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG:
The newest product addition by The Ordinary is their Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG. I recently noticed the nose pads from my last pair of glasses left me with a dark pigmented impression where the pads sit. I was in need of something to treat this along with a bit of puffiness I tend to have under the eye. I read up on the benefits of caffeine and green tea, then found this item with the ordinary. Since I was so satisfied with their Squalane Serum, I had no hesitation in trying this. Within days I noticed the marks had completely disappeared and my eye puffiness had gone down as well. The solution comes in a similar bottle with eye dropper. Its thick, so a little goes a long way. The price point is even more a statement. I would honestly pay more for this product. With regular usage, and making sure you are getting the sleep and hydration needed this product will make a difference.
All products are packaged in glass bottles with eye droppers for application. Neither are filled with fragrances so these are all great for people who deal with sensitive skin. The smells are very mild if not non existent which is also a bonus. There are definitely more benefits to these products and more than I’ve listed so I recommend browsing their site to find those that fit your skin type and expectations.
If you are in the market for quality skincare to your current regimen and are wanting a brand that is trustworthy in its product ingredients and honorable in its pricing, I would hands down recommend The Ordinary. I’ll be trying more of their products in the future.
