Dedicating this year to growing into the best version of myself. For me, this means discovering a deeper sense of what will truly bring me happiness. Soul searching, gaining clarity on the vision on how that happiness will be achieved, becoming more comfortable in my own skin as well as trusting in my personal abilities. Life in and of itself is a challenge, and not feeling overwhelmed with the everyday disturbances to break you but instead make you requires effort to master but well worth it in the end.
Its imperative and once we accept that the journey will bring with it these challenges, we can focus on building the confidence we need in order to survive and end up on the other side a much better version of ourselves, the version or at least closer to the version we always knew was within reach. I often get asked for advice on embracing change and going after what it is I want, often getting exactly what. My response when asked is to remain determined, be relentless in pursuit and always be willing to fail AKA be fearless! If we could predict how things will work out, we’d already be where we think we belong.
Its one thing to set goals to pursue in the ‘New Year’ and while I believe having an idea to work towards is how we keep ourselves motivated, our mindsets are where the focus should lie in order to truly walk into the best versions of ourselves, year in and year out. If the start of a New Year is what sets off your effort to become and do better then so be it, but honestly we have every day to start new.
Be Vulnerable, Be Fearless
Being vulnerable does not make us weak. When we are honest about our flaws and insecurities, we release any self pressure that makes us believe our imperfections are plague. Challenge yourself to be open and vulnerable. Be fearless about sharing what your weaknesses are that may be holding you back with people you not only trust but also admire. Sometimes enlisting advice from those we don’t fully know can help us improve.
Embrace Imperfections
This has always been a challenge for me. Its a tough pill to swallow hearing when, things aren’t quite right especially when you’ve given it your all and are proud of the outcome, it takes someone to step in and find it flawed. What I had to learn was that perfection doesn’t exist and expecting to discover the code only prevents us from starting new or even, finishing what we started it. Allowing ourselves to be disappointed when things don’t go as planned is healthy, being so discouraged as to not to continue, however, distances us from making progress.
Disinvest in Bad Habits
Bad habits are more than just our failed attempt to drink more water or eating healthy. Bad habits are not showing up for ourselves in the ways we know will allow us to achieve the progress overall, desired. Its allowing exceptions to the boundaries we set. Its returning to old situations that are lifeless and serve no tangible purpose. Make the choice to starve all bad habits that won’t allow you discipline, or those that fuel your insecurities and self doubts. Its a choice, we all have a choice. Choose change so you can walk into your best season yet for yourself. If not now, then when?
