We all have times where we reflect on the not so best version of ourselves, associated struggles and the feelings born as a result to those struggles. Similar to the changing seasons, people also go through changes in life, experiencing both highs and lows. Even the most successful people have had to find a way to motivate themselves and get back on track. While we would like to lead a life that consistently brings us joy and prosperity, this just isn’t the reality or at least, we have a hard time and so many outside influences to help make getting to something close challenging.
Tough situations requiring attention will often show up at the most inconvenient times, knocking us off our game every now and again, keeping us down and out for quite some time. When we finally come to, we realize our confidence has suffered in spite of the situation and now we’re challenged with the finding the best route to return to the version of ourselves we know has the self confidence to do anything. So how exactly do we give ourselves the best opportunity to regain the best level of confidence we’d experienced prior to the calamity? Keep reading…..
We use our past encounters and failures to press forward and keep things moving. Realizing that its ok to start over or learn some new and not be good at it but working hard towards becoming an expert or close. There were plenty of times I questioned myself but knew that if given the chance at any opportunity I would persevere and work hard to prove to not only others but also to myself that I am just as capable as anyone else. This was definitely the case when I decided to pick up and move to a different state without securing a stream of income. I decided that I needed to be in the environment of where I wanted to grow in order to fully take advantage of the opportunities and working towards building my desired career in the HR Profession. I knew I would be questioned by many family members, even doubted by someone really close to me, and even though I knew there was a slight change they were all right, especially being behind in experience, I chose to go anyway and I did not allow their opinions to pierce through and effect my self confidence or aspirations. Now, that I have successfully obtained that goal, I have evidence that its possible with the right mindset no matter how difficult the process is, I can persevere if believe.
Athletes relive their poor performing games, by watching playbacks of themselves inspecting every move, identifying along with the good decisions, the flawed ones, constantly critiquing and adjusting. They use this to find the strength and confidence and return to another game. better than before. So remember this technique or develop your own but either way you are responsible for your own joy and to be you own motivator. Here is a great way to getting your self confidence back on track:
Positive Period of Growth – Altered State of Mind
Getting your confidence back is not the most difficult task but it will take a little self-convincing and inner strength. One way to ensure you’re always moving in the right direction, chasing your future endeavors, is to think back to 2 completely different versions of yourself.
Version #1
First, remember the version of yourself that went through the ringer. We sometimes refer to this point as the lowest time in our lives. Whether you are currently experiencing this or if you have experienced a much more brutal time at some point, think about your lowest you. What did she look like? Was she brittle and weak? Did she struggle to get up each day with a fresh perspective of life or even just what that day would bring as far as accomplishments? How long did this state of mind last before she realized how much it held her back? What did she engage in to bring herself out of the setback?
Embracing failure and accepting consequences is part of the process. As difficult as this point in your life may have been, it will be a constant reminder but can be turned into a positive period of growth.
Version #2
The second version of yourself I challenge you to reminisce about, is the unstoppable, exhilarated, top performing and successful version. This girl is who you wish to be consistently, without any interruption. She is someone you admire greatly; essentially she is everything thats the best of you. She is your inner hero.
So, think about how she worked to achieve that level of success. What did her efforts look like? Most importantly, how did she convince herself to maintain such a mindset and remain prosperous? This is who you want to think of to fuel your efforts of being. Her mindset is one you admire and the beauty that exudes when she is in her element is unmatched.
Power of Acceptance
With these two very different representations, you hold the power necessary to change your perspective at any time. When you find yourself questioning your abilities, empowering your insecurities, think of the previous version of yourself that tools necessary to change your direction of confidence, awakening your inner hero by taking charge of your focus and changing its course effectively.
Hope this helps! You’ve got this!
