The transition to Fall is underway and for some that means its time to make changes to wardrobe. Swapping out spring and summer pieces for fall and winter items usually happens right around this time, and is largely welcomed, especially with it being the holiday season. For the southerners, theres usually a little more time for us to prepare here in Texas, since summers can typically be extended well into what would be cooler months for other parts of the country.
Nevertheless and unusually so, I am ready to exchange my maxi dresses, rompers and denim shorts for some heavier knits, wool hats and winter coats. Normally I’m hanging on to the warmer temperatures for dear life since I am not much of a fan of the cold, but its been a very hot summer and outdoor activities have been a minimal because of this.
When it comes to dressing for fall and winter, like I’d mentioned, the transition in the south is a little delayed and with the inconsistency its not definite as to when those heavier items will actually be needed. For example, in the mornings we may wake up and experience cool temperatures but by mid afternoon we can easily find ourselves peeling off the layers for relief. Staying prepared for either is still necessary even during this inconsistency.
I find it great to have a few pieces readily available for any of the changes in weather despite its inability to make up its mind. Fall essentials for me are ones I can wear during the season but for years to come; classic neutrals and timeless options make the short span of cold weather here more feasible and practical. Getting to use my clothing not just once a year is important to me, especially when I’ve become attached or may not have had the opportunity to style it in the multiple ways I’d envisioned.
