Being cooped up in the house all weekend meant finishing home projects I’d been avoiding and a little more time for self care. We can sometimes be on autopilot to the point that we forget rest is required to show up our best. I am so use to being on the go all the time, I neglect my own health and sometimes don’t even realize how exhausted I am. While I don’t get sick very often, I do understand that the lack of proper rest can compromise this.
Not only is rest required for the overall function of your physical movements and abilities, you have to be willing to give yourself time to recover mentally. Throughout the week, so much of our time is dedicated to using brainpower to fuel productivity that we don’t consider mental health is also included in leading an overall healthy lifestyle.
Mental health is certainly a priority of mine, and something I am learning more on how to improve my current state of mental health through being aware when I am experiencing overwhelming amounts of anxiety and when my body is trying to send a message I am be missing due my inability to stop and rest.
Protect Your Peace
Protecting your peace means promoting healthy habits and guarding your state of mind. One way to contribute to protecting your personal peace is by realizing that anxiety triggers can be self inflicted. One trigger of self inflicted anxiety sparks from the created perception that you are responsible for the happiness of those around you. This perception is false. We are responsible for our own happiness. This doesn’t mean we should not be considerate of someone else’s happiness and how our actions effect that, but we know how we feel and what makes us happy so inflicting that responsibility onto someone else is selfish.
Re-evaluate Personal Relationships
Our friends and family serve a larger purpose in our lives. We rely on them so much emotionally, that we sometimes don’t realize how much they influence our decisions both positively and negatively. We also don’t consider that sharing our ideas and goals we’d like to achieve, expecting their advice to align with the decision to be made can sometimes not be what is expected. Be careful who you share your most intimate thoughts with. Not everyone has the same mindset as you and so the advice you may be seeking, may actually be a negative affect on your expected direction..
Out With the Old, In With the New!
Hanging on to items that no longer make serve a purpose in our lives can be a negative contribution to our goal of achieve a great self care routine. Get rid of anything that no longer makes you happy and make room for things that will. You’ll be surprised how much stress this will receive you of and how things will begin to shift and change for the better because you’re no longer attached.
Don’t at all feel guilty for putting yourself first, protecting your physical, emotional and mental health. Self Care should be a priority in everyone’s life. To be the best version of yourself for others, you must first think about your personal needs. Take time to recharge and relax every once in a while. You’ll be grateful that you did.
